Roaming Romana
The Trip
- Roaming Romana
- In August 2011, Sister Romana and her friend, Teresa Hayden visited Sr. Romana's former student, Martha Hurley and her husband, David Graves, in Vienna, Austria. Following is a photo journey of the sights from that reunion.

Bled, Slovenia
Next stop: beautiful Bled, Slovenia with its mountains, lake, castle, island and church, charming boats and cream cakes.
"When the dog bites, when the bee stings...." she simply remembers her favorite things! The waitress brought a slice of lemon to neutralize the bee venom. |
The climb to the castle was just too steep and the weather too hot. |
And she does windows! |
The Grossglockner Alpine Highway
Sister Romana wanted to take a drive along Austria's famous Grossglockner Alpine Highway. Getting there from Thumsee along the valley floor was breathtakingly beautiful. However, we soon learned that being in the mountaintops is not her cup of tea so we made that part of the journey as short as we could.
Thumsee, near Bad Reichenhall, Germany
Martha's favorite place is the peaceful Thumsee, near Salzburg but in Germany. She usually goes there for peace and quiet but it seems everyone in Austria and Germany had the same idea on this trip. The place was full of people! Luckily, early morning and sunset provided some quiet time.
Our pretty pension. |
Even the bird feeder has charm. |
