The Aula is one of the most famous rooms in Vienna for it was here on March 27, 1808 that Joseph Haydn celebrated his 76th birthday. His former pupil, Beethoven, as well as all the other musical celebrities of the day, were there to honor him and to hear a performance of his work, The Creation. This was Haydn's last public appearance.
